Recap: Day 3

Six duels today, mostly against players I knew I realistically should be able to beat. However, I do notice that my level of play has crumbled a lot. I make obvious mistakes every now and then, miss a lot of shots and generally just underperform compared to what I remember my game to be like. What I do like, though, is the fact that my RL is still quite strong (see demos).

The lowest RL accuracy recorded today is 55%, with the highest accuracy being at 64% against the two players I actually lost against, poland Daxio and belgium Darkwave. It’s still not even remotely close to the glory days of my duel career, with RL accuracies of 80%+ not being too rare a sight to encounter, but still something that makes me smile a bit. Makes me think I haven’t yet forgotten everything I learned before.

Additionally, I found out that you can actually set Warsow to automatically save your stats to a .txt file (thanks finland Crizis)! That’s going to save a lot of time, as to this day I have had to browse through autorecorded screenshots and manually write them down from there. Man, Warsow never ceases to amaze me.

Recap: Day 2

Thing didn’t really go as planned on my second day of the project. I only managed to play one duel today, as I had a LAN party to attend to. Not that I would really complain, as LAN gaming is great fun, but I still wished I could’ve played more duels. We compensated that by playing several hours of Warsow with 8+ friends of mine who hadn’t really played the game much at all before. Glad to see that Warsow still has appeal for new players!

As for the duel of today, russia Leshka and I continously switched back and forth with who was in control. What I learned was that I really must start paying more attention to item timings, and that the Electrobolt isn’t as bad a weapon as I have always believed it to be (for me, since I never usually hit anything with it!). Also permanently removed my Electrobolt bind from mouse3 and placed it on the V key, as I believe it’s essential to be able to have your finger on both the jump and the fire keys at all times. Using mouse3 for something like choosing the EB would deny that.

Will try my hardest to play more duels on day 3. Promise!

Recap: Day 1

The first day of my year-long project has just ended. While I could only fit in six duels to this day, I must say I have a good feeling about this. Before I even got to play any games at all, many fellow Warsow players had posted cheering comments on the Warsow.net forums and on IRC, wishing me good luck and bombaring me with good ideas on how to improve this blog.

Some of the ideas for this blog are:

  • Creating videos where I would do in-depth analysis on a specific demo, describing what I did and why (and possibly what I should’ve done instead). I really like this idea, as it would force me to really pay attention my mistakes and thus would greatly improve my game. Additionally, this would really benefit my spoken English!
  • Keeping an up-to-date online Excel document with specific statistics of all my games
  • Posting tutorials and guides about dueling, HUD creation, config tweaking, and anything else that can benefit the readers of this blog
  • Publishing monthly frag highlight videos
  • Writing Warsow community news
  • Weekly recaps with a vast variety of statistics about my games during that given week

  • As for the matches themselves, they went pretty much the way I suspected them to. I didn’t really have any chance against poland Daxio, and se Falcky didn’t really let me off easy either. Positively thinking, the only way from here is upwards.

Only 364 days left. I suspect a bumpy ride.
